Two assignments: Harmonize a Melody 1 and 2. Together they serve to introduce students to writing diatonic chord progressions in different styles. Assignment 1 is limited to “conventional” common practice harmonic functions and simple triads; Assignment 2 requires the students to generate a harmonization for the same melody in classical and popular/blues styles.
