This is an assignment that I have used in a series called Artists in Culture where students use the three categories of music (sacred, secular, secular instrumental) taken from the Carnegie Hall African American Music Timeline website. Students choose genres and/or artists of today whose music (in/as culture) they will research and present in class based upon the features found on the site. The assignment fulfills several course objectives.
