Phone Number Composition is an in-class activity designed to have students apply the concept of intervals. Students use their phone numbers to generate a melody. Students check each others work (intervals, notation, etc.) before performing the melodies together. Less advanced students will spend a considerable amount of class time calculating intervals, while advanced students will usually end up spending the majority of class time learning how to rehearse as a group.
